Sask. Huskies reach U Sports national championship final

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies are going back to the U Sports Final 8 national championship final.
The Huskies made sure of that Saturday night with an 85-63 victory over the host University of British Columbia Thunderbirds in national semifinal action in Vancouver, B.C.
Saskatchewan now awaits the winner between the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees as its championship final opponent Sunday afternoon (4 p.m. Pacific time).

“We’re so excited — it’s just an amazing feeling to be at nationals and going to the finals,” Huskies player of the game Ella Murphy Wiebe said during a post-game interview on CBC Gem..
“It’s not something I take lightly. I’m just so excited.”
A year ago, Carleton edged Saskatchewan 70-67 in the national championship final for the Bronze Baby.
On Saturday, Murphy Wiebe came off the bench to record 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
“I’m honestly so grateful,” said Wiebe. “My team, I wouldn’t want to be here with anybody else. It was a great game. UBC is such a great match. They played so hard. I’m just really grateful that we could be in this game against them.
“I’m just ecstatic.
Andrea Dodig added 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
U Sports player of the year Gage Grassick chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal.
Courtney Primeau had 11 points and six rebounds, while Maya Flindall added 10 points. Swedish import Olivia Harm contributed eight points, four rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and one steal.
Saskatchewan led 26-12 after the opening quarter and 49-27 at half-time. UBC outscored the visitors 21-19 in the third quarter but it was not enough to close the gap.
